silver-grey portrait

I used a picture of Russel James to paint this study on stone. It is painted on a silver-gray background on stone and I wanted to find a way to make the face and the background melt together.
It is a small one 20x20 cm.

backgrounds

The last couple of weeks I,ve been making studies for backgrounds. I wanted to find out what atmosphere, colour, texture and meaning a background should have for me to want to paint a portrait on. All of the studies turned out to be abstract and are earth coloured with a touch of gold or silver.
Here are a few examples;

another bird

fase 1
I painted this bird on stone. It is the first stage. I'll be working on tones and depth.
I used goldpaint in the back to create a warm atmosphere and at the same time a suggestion of space in the back.

little Lola Crying

4 stages of a study how background changes the whole atmosphere of a painting. I'm not finished with this topic and lost a bit of an ear in the last painting.. That will be changed.
